A big crowd checks out the 21st Annual Carl Junction Bluegrass Festival held in Center Creek Park. The Wyandotte Nation is searching for the next Chief of Police, according to the Wyandotte Tribe of Oklahoma. Ken Murphy has resigned his position as Chief of Police of the Wyandotte Nation Tribal Police Department (WNTPD) after serving in the position for nine years. Officer Faron Lee, who has served with the department for eleven years, will serve as Interim Police Chief.

On September 13th, 2018, Children's Mercy Hospital contacted the Iola Police Department about a child with head injuries. Police executed a search warrant at the child's home on McGuire Dr. in Iola, Kansas with assistance from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. One person is reported injured after a shooting in Parsons around noon on September 19th, 2018. According to the Parsons Police Department, the incident took place near the corner of 24th and Thornton Streets. Southeast Kansas Man Sentenced for Child Sex Crimes Video included

Hard 50 Given in Iola Murder Case

An Allen County, Kansas judge sentences Joshua Knapp of Iola, Kansas to life in prison with a hard 50 for murdering Shawn Cook.  Shawn Cook was reported missing on March 13th, 2016. His body was found on the banks of the Neosho River in Coffey County, Kansas on April 3rd, 2016. A preliminary autopsy showed Cook died from stab wounds. Five people from Iola were charged in his murder.
