SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - The owners of an exotic animal sanctuary in northern Greene County say they will move to somewhere they are wanted.
The owners said Tuesday that they will move the sanctuary and its monkeys from its current location in Brighton.
The decision came shortly before the Greene County Commission denied a conditional use permit that would have allowed the family to operate the sanctuary legally. The county limits residents to keeping no more than two exotic animals at a single home.
The owners, T.J. and Drew Rose told the commission they haven't decided where to move the sanctuary and its two dozen monkeys.
The refuge came under scrutiny since three monkeys escaped, one in April and two in May.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that the commission gave the owners 90 days to close the sanctuary.
