Columbia councilwoman was with husband in DWI stop

Associated Press - March 7, 2010 8:34 PM ET

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A Columbia councilwoman now says she "misspoke" when she told a reporter she wasn't with her husband during his DWI traffic stop.

The Columbia Daily Tribune interviewed Laura Nauser again because a state trooper said in the probable cause statement that the councilwoman was a passenger in the vehicle that was stopped on New Year's Eve.

Asked about the discrepency, Nauser said she had just gotten off an airplane when she initially was interviewed and was surpised by the phone call from a reporter.

Her husband, Gregory Nauser, has been charged with driving while intoxicated, felony possession of a firearm while intoxicated and failure to have proof of insurance.

Besides serving as a councilwoman, Laura Nauser also is a Republican candidate for the Missouri House of Representatives.
