CARTHAGE, MO. - A Carthage, Missouri dealership with 45 years of service says it will close in a month or two.
Village Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC of Carthage recently received the news from General Motors.
The dealership is a staple in the business community but the Chamber of Commerce says its closing could also result in a loss of income for the city.
"Sales tax dollars will be leaving the community," says Chamber President Sabrina Drackert. "So Carthage is not a better community for GM leaving so we're losing all those sales tax dollars to other communities."
The dealership's general manager says many of the Village employees may be able to find jobs at Carthage Ford. That dealership is adding a quick lane for service that will include GM trained mechanics.
