PITTSBURG, KAN. - Some inner-city middle schoolers are getting hands-on experience in engineering, while visiting a college campus.
The students are members of the prestigious "Kauffman Scholars" program which gives financial aid and intensive help to gifted kids from urban Kansas City.
The program selects scholars in seventh grade and continues to support them until they graduate from college.
Teachers say it is a joy to make the kids' lives better.
"Seeing the kids achieve, whether it's in the classroom or in the relationships that they have in their life, really just getting to be a part of something that's really positive," says life coach Moira Aaron-Castillo. "A lot of times we get bogged down with things that are very negative with youth, and in schools today."
