The Joplin, Missouri man enlisted in the Navy as a Submarine Navigation Electronics Technician.
The nuclear-powered attack submarine Missouri is the fifth Navy ship to be named in honor of the people of state.
At 377 feet long, the Missouri is slightly longer than a football field.
