SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Springfield's city council has again rejected a proposal to lower penalties for small amounts of marijuana. After the council rejected a proposal last summer, an alternate bill was drafted and would have gone on the August ballot. Neither measure received much support from the council last night. Most said if marijuana is going to be decriminalized, it should be done at the state level.

HANNIBAL, Mo. (AP) - More than 20 people face drug-related charges after being arrested in the town of Hannibal. The arrests announced yesterday came over a 6-day period. Suspects are from Hannibal, Paris, Center, Monroe City and Quincy, Ill. Police say the drug involved include marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and LSD.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Police are trying to determine why a speeding car ran into a building in St. Louis, killing the driver. The accident happened late Sunday night. Police say 57-year-old Aaron Adail died after his car struck an unoccupied building.

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - Two men admit they stole copper wire from utility poles while the city of Joplin recovered from a deadly tornado in May 2011. Forty-5-year-old Timothy Silveria and 32-year-old Nycoa Kracht pleaded guilty yesterday to theft. They face up to seven years in prison during sentencing in July.
