
HAYS, Kan. — The Pitt State men's track & field team turned in a dominating performance in posting a 62.5-point victory in the FHSU Quadrangular Saturday (Apr. 7).
The Gorillas scored nine individual event victories and compiled 219.5 points in the four-team competition. Fort Hays State finished second with 157 points, followed by Nebraska-Kearney (152.5) and Chadron State (114.5).
Pitt State dominated the field event competitions. Calvin Hughes led a 1-2-3 Gorilla finish in the javelin with a winning throw of 204 feet, 3 inches.
John Talbert won the hammer throw (193-1) and finished first among collegians in the discus (172.6). Kiara Jones won the triple jump in 50-2.75, while Steven Mann claimed the win in the long jump in 23-10.25. Jones finished second in the long jump in 23-7.5.
Jeff Piepenbrink also won the pole vault by clearing 15-3.
On the track, the 400m relay team scored a victory with a winning time of 41.02 seconds. Adam Volkert won the 5,000 meters in 15:09.06, while Ryan Ramler won the 400m hurdles in 54.09. Keenan Soles rounded out the Gorillas' event winners with a 10.66 clocking in the 100 meters.
