Area high school needs your help to win national competition

Updated:

CHANUTE, KAN. - The Erie High Charter School in Kansas is one of 25 finalists in Walmart's Earth Day Every Day School Challenge.  As a finalist, Erie High is competing for a $20,000 grant.

The school was selected based on efforts to help pass a bond issue to make the school more sustainable as well as implementing aluminum and paper recycling programs.

On Tuesday in Chanute, Walmart presented a gift card worth $500 to help the school with environmentally friendly projects.

"It is amazing, and these kids have worked over the summer," says Rose Fry, Erie Curriculum Director and grant writer.  "They have came over the summer on their own time, and it shows their dedication and commitment.  When I ask why they came to this class, they said they wanted to make a difference and do something very important."

You can help make Erie High Charter School an eco-winner by voting for them in the Earth Day Every Day Challenge.  The deadline to vote is June 19.
