Kan. teacher stabbed while prepping classroom

Associated Press - August 11, 2009 12:14 PM ET

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (AP) - Police say a Garden City elementary school teacher who was getting his classroom ready for the new school year has been stabbed after letting two men into the building.

Third-grade teacher Michael Blanks told police he was working late Sunday when two men knocked on the doors of Alta Brown Elementary School and motioned for him to let them in.

The 23-year-old told officers he opened the door and the men pushed their way inside, yelling at him in Spanish and then punching him. Police say Blanks was stabbed in the leg after he fell, and it took four staples to close the wound.

The men were described as Hispanics with stocky builds and wearing dark clothing.
