CHERRYVALE, KAN. - The city of Cherryvale, Kansas joins the U.S. Postal Service in honoring a hometown girl.
Vivian Vance was best known for her Emmy award winning portrayal of Ethel Mertz on the "I Love Lucy" TV show of the 1950's.
On Tuesday the Postmaster celebrated the likeness of Vance on a U.S. postage stamp by presenting an enlargement of the stamp to her relatives in Cherryvale.
The ceremony was held at Vance's birthplace, now owned by her second cousin, Imogene Littel.
"When we bought the house we didn't know until later," Littel explains. "Aunt Mae told us 'that is the house Vivian was born in - born in the northwest window on a hot, hot day.'"
The stamp shows Lucy and Ethel struggling at a chocolate factory.
It's one of 20 early TV memories postage stamps that pay tribute to TV productions from the golden age of television.
Other shows featured are "Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet," "Ed Sullivan Show," "The Honeymooners," and "Howdy Doody."
Although Vance died in 1979, Cherryvale continues to remember her legacy and held a 100th birthday event in July.
Littell says she remembers visiting Vance in Hollywood.
"We heard her come in the back door - she was saying 'who's here from Kansas? Who's here from Kansas? She came around the corner and said 'I saw the Kansas tag from the car parked out front and I knew it was family from Kansas.'"
