ST. LOUIS (AP) - Greenpeace is seeking congressional support in Missouri for safeguards at high-risk chemical plants and is taking its campaign to St. Louis.
Greenpeace backs federal legislation that would require such plants to use safer technologies and chemicals.
The environmental group has scheduled a news conference at 11 a.m. Wednesday outside Clay Elementary School in St. Louis and will identify high-risk chemical facilities in the area.
Greenpeace says it wants to avoid industrial disasters like the one in the Indian city of Bhopal in 1984 in which thousands of people died.
