BAXTER SPRINGS, KAN. - A Four State science teacher is being honored by his colleagues from the district and the southeast region of the state of Kansas.
Arthur Commons is a high school science teacher who is the District Teacher of the year, and is now the Regional Teacher of the Year.
Commons was nominated by his peers at Baxter Springs High School and has been teaching for 12 years.
He is also a youth leader at his local church, hoping to influence kids in and out of the classroom.
Commons, who is 33, says his age has nothing to do with this award.
"There are a lot of teachers here at our school that are more mature than I am that still have a great repore with kids and are able to reach them where they need to be reached and do an incredible job, so I don't think that age has anything to do with it."
Commons is now one of 8 finalists vying for the title of Kansas Teacher of the Year.
