The Department of Labor says Western Wats hired almost 1500 teens, including three 13-year olds, to work at call centers in seven states.
The Utah based company has call centers in Pittsburg and Independence, Kansas.
In response to the fines the company says it denies the extent and severity of the violations. Company officials say an appeal process is underway.
According to labor laws children under the age of 14 can not work outside of agricultural jobs.
Also, 14 and 15 year olds may only work limited hours before or after school.
The Department of Labor did not give specifics on how many children were involved at the Four State call centers, when the children worked, or how many hours were worked.
