JOPLIN, MO. - Emergency crews were called to the Tanglewood Apartments on East 32nd Street Monday afternoon.
That is where they found a child, police say was about two years old, injured from a fall from a second story window.
Police say the child's mother was reportedly in the bathroom at the time of the incident.
They say the child leaned against the screen of an open window and the screen came off.
Police say the child was alert when taken to the hospital by ambulance, but they did not know the child's condition.
A neighbor says she has experienced the loose screens in her own apartment. She told us the screens in her apartment fall out easily, so she isn't surprised the screens in the top story are not as secure. She told us her screens were not tight or latched in.
A corporate spokesperson with Tanglewood Apartments says they are not aware of any issues with the window screens.
He says screens are not meant to hold a person back, and policy and procedures were followed as far as they know.
The condition of the child is unknown but the injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
