Updated: Nov 8, 2009 06:46 PM CST

Residents of Miami, Oklahoma are tearing down an old practice soccer field and building a BMX bike track.

Construction began only a few days ago building the ramps of the course today. The city of Miami designated a portion of Lion Taylor park near I-44 and Steve Owens Boulevard.

The course is sanctioned by the American Bicycles Association and will hold official races. The facility is coming together with volunteer support.

"It was all donated but there's probably $12,000 worth of dirt," says track operator, Dale Riley. "The labor here is primarily donation, volunteers so we are getting off lucky here if it was all out of pocket it was probably $60,000 to $80,000."

Riley is hoping to have the first race in the spring, with all proceeds going right back into the track.
