Authorities are investigating a Monday afternoon shooting in Cherokee County.  Law officers were called to an area near a pit west of Columbus, Kansas.

Investigators say one male was shot and has been rushed to the hospital.

Investigators have not released many details but they say they are now trying to piece together clues.

"We are investigating it, we don't know at this point," says Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.  "We are in the initial stages of the investigation so it hasn't been determined if it was intentional or accidental."

No word yet on the condition of the person who was shot.
