    An Allen County, Kansas judge sentences Joshua Knapp of Iola, Kansas to life in prison with a hard 50 for murdering Shawn Cook.  Shawn Cook was reported missing on March 13th, 2016. His body was found on the banks of the Neosho River in Coffey County, Kansas on April 3rd, 2016. A preliminary autopsy showed Cook died from stab wounds. Five people from Iola were charged in his murder.

        The safe room at Columbia Elementary still sits - unused, as a safe room, it is however, functioning, as the school's gymnasium.    The issues with the safe room go back as far as 2013, before it was even constructed.  Following the May 22nd tornado, Joplin Schools used FEMA and SEMA money, coupled with funding from the Community Disaster Block Grant, or CDBG, to build safe rooms at it's campuses that were up to FEMA codes.
