Cut squash in half lengthwise and remove seeds. Slice a bit off the shell to make the squash sit securely in a baking dish.
Spread butter on open face. Place face-up in baking dish with a little water in it. Sprinkle brown sugar on face. You can also sprinkle on one shake of nutmeg and two shakes of cinnamon if you want.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 to 60 minutes until fork tender.
