Regional Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine Center

Wilson Medical Center's Regional Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine Center is the only center in Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma that offers hyperbaric medicine.

The hyperbaric chamber is an important tool for our wound care healing.  A non-invasive clear acrylic chamber provides 100% oxygen to promote the optimum healing opportunity.  While breathing pure oxygen, the patient's blood plasma becomes saturated, carrying 20 to 30 times the normal amount of oxygen to the body's tissue.  The ultimate result is the body's natural wound healing mechanisms (which are oxygen dependent) are able to function more efficiently.  Continued use of hyperbaric oxygen treatment increases the body's immune and healing response.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments typically covered by Medicare and treated at our center include:

  • Diabetic wounds of the lower extremity
  • Compromised skin grafts and flaps
  • Delayed radiation injury
  • Necrotizing soft-tissue infections
  • Osteomyelitis (refractory)
  • Crush injury, compartment syndrome & other acute traumatic ischemias
  • Clostridial myonecrosis (gas gangrene)
  • Air or gas embolism
