Wilson Medical Center’s Regional Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine Center Received Award for Excellence

Diversified Clinical Services, Inc. (DCS) presented the "Center of Distinction Award" to Wilson Medical Center's Regional Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine. Accepting the award on behalf of the Wound Center Staff were Program Director, Diana Cunningham, RN, CWS, FCCWS and Medical Director, F. Allen Moorhead Jr., M.D.

The award was presented to the Wound Center because of their high patient satisfaction scores, outstanding clinical performance and their 94 percent heal rate, which is above national standards.

DCS partners with Wilson Medical Center to provide specialized treatments through the Wound Center to heal diabetic foot wounds, vascular disorders, pressure ulcers, as well as many other types of wounds that do not respond to normal medical care within 30 days.

In November DCS recognized the hospital's Wound Center as the top regional center for the month.

The Center's award-winning care allowed for a second hyperbaric oxygen chamber to be installed. Since opening in July, 1999, the Center has been able to treat four patients a day with hyperbaric oxygen therapy and has provided more than 4,400 hyperbaric oxygen treatments. On average, one in every four patients treated at the Wound Care Center will benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The availability of the second chamber will now allow the Center to treat twice as many hyperbaric patients on a daily basis.

Wilson Medical Center is the only wound care center serving Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma that provides hyperbaric oxygen therapy, an aid in wound care healing.  The experienced wound care team consists of four physicians with advanced wound care education and approved hyperbaric medicine education through the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Society (UHMS), two certified wound care specialists with advanced wound care education and completion of the UHMS-approved hyperbaric medicine course, experienced RNs, LPNs, and support staff.

"Our program is primarily devoted to healing problem wounds and helping our patients to reclaim their quality of life," said Diana Cunningham, RN, CWS, FCCWS, Program Director. "We are honored to receive this Award of Excellence from DCS."
