Missouri Southern Sweeps MIAA Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Skyler Bowlin (Missouri Southern) and Jasmine Lovejoy (Missouri Southern) have been named MIAA Basketball Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 8-12 as selected by a conference SID panel.

MIAA MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Bowlin had back-to-back 30-point games this week in helping the Lions to a 2-0 mark and securing a two-game lead in the conference standings with four left to play. Against Pitt, Bowlin scored 24 of his 30 points in the second half as the Lions scored 53 points in the second. He scored 20 points in the final 7:22 of the game. Against ESU, Bowlin hit his first five three pointers on the night en route to tying his own school record of eight in a game, helping the Lions to lead from start to finish. He also dished out 12 assists on the night and moved over 1,500 points and 200 three pointers in his career. For the week, Bowlin averaged 30 points, 9.5 assists, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks, while shooting 58 percent from the field, 60 percent from long-range and 90 percent from the free-throw line.

MIAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lovejoy scored 16 points in the road loss to Pittsburg State.  She then turned in a career-high 38 points, including a personal 7-0 run to close out the first half to give MSSU a 32-30 lead, against the No. 20 (defending D2 National Champions) Emporia State Lady Hornets. In the upset win over ESU, Lovejoy also secured her sixth double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds. She was a perfect 2-for-2 for the week from the three-point line as well as shooting 60.6% (20-of-33) from the field in playing all 85 minutes in both games.
