
PITTSBURG — Moses Dayee hit a guarded 3-pointer with 29 seconds remaining to spark No. 17 Fort Hays State to a 70-63 over Pitt State Wednesday (Feb. 23) at John Lance Arena.
The Tigers (22-5, 16-5 MIAA) led 65-63 in the game's final minute before Dayee hit his baseline jumper with the shot clock winding down. The Gorillas (13-12, 9-12 MIAA) missed on the other end of the floor and Dayee then made two free throws with 16 seconds left to seal the victory.
FHSU led by 11 points, at 61-50, with 7:29 remaining before Pitt State tried to rally down the stretch. Eric Ray, who led all scorers with 19 points, hit a 3-pointer with 52 seconds to draw the Gorillas within two points at 65-63.
Ken Bowman led the Tigers with 17 points, while Dominique Jones and Dayee added 13 apiece. Dijon Smith finished with six points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
Andra Bailey had nine points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and four steals for the Gorillas, while Chris Ware added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Pitt State shot just 35.5 percent from the floor (22 of 62) in the game.
