Bean and Bergin Named MIAA Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Tyler Bean (Washburn) and Matt Bergin (Missouri Western) have been named MIAA Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 5-10, as selected by a conference SID panel.

MIAA BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Bean, Jr., Washburn

Bean batted .632 (12-for-19) on the week with three doubles, four home runs, 17 RBIs and 10 runs scored. He had multiple hits in four of the five games and at least 3 RBIs in four of the five. Bean was 4-for-6 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored in WU's mid-week game at Newman. He went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored in the series opening win over Lincoln. Bean was 3-for-4 with a double, home run, five RBIs and a run scored in an 11-5 game two win over the Blue Tigers. In a 13-4 series finale win, he was 2-for-3 with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored, Bean raised his season batting average 65 points to .319. He now leads the team with six home runs and 15 extra-base hits.

MIAA BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Matt Bergin, Jr., Missouri Western

Bergin had an outstanding week out of the bullpen and in his first career start for Western. Bergin threw 12 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball this past week extending his streak of scoreless innings to 16 1/3 on the season. He held the 5th ranked Emporia State Hornets to just one hits while striking out two in 1 2/3 innings of work last Tuesday. On Friday against the Gorillas, he came in to hold the Gorillas down pitching three innings giving up one hit while striking out one. On Saturday Bergin made his first career start in game four of the series against PSU. Bergin scattered seven hits in eight innings while striking out five and walking just one. On the season he has a .054 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 16.2 innings of work.
