Gorillas Run Rule Bearcats Twice on the Softball Diamond

PITTSBURG -- The Pitt State Softball team now has a four-game win streak after besting Southwest Baptist, 12-2 and 12-4, in two run rule games on Friday (April 29) afternoon at the PSU Softball Complex.

Kreslee Ketcham and Katelyn Birchfield led the team over the two games, each hitting .750 on the day. Ketcham was 6-for-8 with three runs scored, four RBI, two doubles and a home run. Birchfield was 3-for-4 with three walks, a hit by pitch, six runs scored, a home run and four RBI. Tiffany Brown also added a home run for the Gorillas as she went 2-for-2 from the plate in game two and earned the win in the circle in game one.

Though SBU scored first in both games, Pitt State was able to come back with a vengence using timely hitting and taking advantage of their opponent miscues.

In game one, the Gorillas tallied 12 runs on 14 hits and three Bearcat errors over five innings of play. The Gorillas scored in every inning, three runs in the first and the third, four runs in the second and two in the fourth.

The team went back and forth in the second game. SBU went up 2-0 after the top of the first. Pitt State answered w ith two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Bearcats regained a two run lead in the top of the third after a scoreless second inning, but again the Gorillas tied the game with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

The bottom of the fourth saw Pitt State take its first lead of the game with two runs. The team added four in the fifth and Brown's walkoff two run homer in the sixth ended the game.

Samantha Grove earned the win in game two after pitching the complete game.

Pitt State will celebrate seniors Erin Eddy and Alycia Fivecoats on Saturday (April 30) between games of a doubleheader versus Central Missouri. Game one of the double dip begins at 2 p.m.
