Brandy Simpson breaks school record in the heptathlon

Updated:
PITTSBURG -- Missouri Southern women's track and field athlete Brandy Simpson finished seventh in the 2011 MIAA Heptathlon, breaking her own school record in the process today at Pittsburg State University.

Simpson scored 4,650 points in the two-day event, breaking her own school record of 4,397 points she set a year ago at the same event. The point total is also an NCAA provisional mark and earns the Lions two points toward the MIAA Championship, placing them in fourth place going into next weekend's event.

Simpson had personal-bests in both the long jump and the 800m today, placing fifth in the long jump at 18-4, while placing 8th in the 800m with a time of 2:34.10. She was fourth in the javelin with a distance of 112-10. Her time in the 100m hurdles yesterday was also a season-best.

The Lions will be back in action next weekend competing in the 2011 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Emporia State.
