Haye and Clark Named MIAA Women’s Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week

Updated:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Yanique Haye (Lincoln) and Gretchen Clark (Pittsburg State) have been named MIAA Women's Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 25-30, as selected by a conference SID panel.

MIAA WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Yanique Haye, So., Lincoln

Haye sprinted to a time of 59.45 in the 400-meter hurdles competing against several Division I runners at the Drake Relays. Her time is the third best in all of Division II and trails only two other Lincoln teammates for the top spot. The sophomore from St. Catherine, Jamaica, added to that a strong second-place showing in helping the 4x400-meter relay team grab second with a time of 3:43.82.

Others nominated: none.

MIAA WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Gretchen Clark, Sr., Pittsburg State
Clark broke the Pitt State school record and reclaimed the nation's best high jump at the Drake Relays Friday (Apr. 29).  The Cozad, Neb., native cleared 5-feet, 10 inches to better her automatic qualifying status in the discipline from her previous season-best effort of 5-9.25.  She now has the top mark in Division II as athletes point toward the 2011 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships in May.  Clark led all non-Division I athletes in the high jump at Drake.  She and three other Division I athletes cleared 5-10 in the meet, but Clark placed fifth by taking three attempts to clear 5-7 early in the competition.

Others nominated: Kayla Muyskens, UCM; Deja Jackson, ESU; Christa Bergmann, FHSU; Kathie Lee Laidley, UNO.
