
PITTSBURG — Pitt State seniors Taylor Sibala and Brian Dean earned Capital One Academic All-District VII honors for baseball Friday (May 6).
Sibala, who has a perfect 4.00 GPA as a mechanical engineering major, was named to the first-team Academic All-District squad, while Dean, who has a 3.97 GPA as a communication major, garnered second-team honors.
Sibala now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® ballot. The 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Team will be announced in June.
Sibala, an Overland Park, Kan., native received second-team Academic All-America honors as a junior in 2010. During his senior campaign this spring, he batted .328 with eight doubles, five triples, 38 runs scored and 17 stolen bases. He ranked among the MIAA leaders in triples, runs scored and stolen bases.
Dean, from Littleton, Colo., hit .289 with seven doubles, 21 runs scored and 24 RBIs for the Gorillas this spring.
Both Sibala and Dean have been named MIAA Presidential Scholars during their academic careers. Both players also have earned MIAA All-Academic Team honors and been named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
