Ottawa County, Oklahoma commissioners have voted to display the words " In God We Trust" in the county courthouse. The phrase already appears with a portrait in the district attorney's office.
Commissioners were swamped with petitions from citizens concerned they wouldn't display what is our national motto.
Commissioners say they had only tabled the issue to research the possibility of being sued after another county paid $199,000 in a court battle over Ten Commandments display.
"You have to understand, as county commissioner we're elected to be a good steward of taxpayer dollars," says Commission Chairman John Clarke. "We want to proceed with caution when we make a decision."
First assistant district attorney Ben Loring advises the commission.
