Tuesday Afternoon June 7th

Doug has outlined out current weather setup below. Just wanted to drop in and say a big hello to everyone and hope you all had a great weekend. We will be watching closely on Thursday as some thunderstorms will return to the forecast. I know some of you will welcome some rain as some of the lawns are looking dry lately.

**Our computer person is currently working on putting a link to our Severe Weather Channel that you will be able to pickup in severe weather right here on the Internet. Dave is currently on Vacation and doing well (Filling in for Dave). I will see everyone back in the morning. Take care and have a splendid day.

Meteorologist Doug Heady:

Good Tuesday everyone.  I hope the week is treating you great.  It has been so hot over the past couple of days.  In fact we have set record highs 3 or the past 5 days.  That is amazing.  Does this mean we are going to have a hot summer? I have been saying for a couple of months now that I think it will be a hot summer.  Last summer was pretty hot, this summer should be equal or a little worse.  Also in the 2nd half of summer we will struggle to get rain in here.  I do think our rain will pick up over the next couple of weeks.  The problem over the past 5-7 days has been our upper level ridge over us.  Take a look below.

We have been hot and humid for several days now and not much going on.  Let me show you why.

We have a huge upper level ridge over us that is keeping us hot and dry.  We are still in our 50 day pattern, but we are moving into the summer version of it.  We are still seeing the same systems rolling through, but the are mainly rotating north of us as the Jet Stream gets weaker and weaker this time of the year.  However, I do think we will get some systems down this way over the next few weeks.

The ridge will break down some later this week.  This will allow systems to get closer to us and give us chances for showers and thunderstorms.  We will actually need the rain here later this week.  I also think we will have a slight severe threat from Thursday through Sunday.  This is something I will watch closely for all of you.  Then a second system will affect us mid and late next week that will give us decent chances for thunderstorms.  So we actually do have weather to watch over the next week and a half or so.

Until then I just don't see a lot of changes.  As long as this upper level ridge is in place, we will get more of the same.  It will be hot and humid for most of the week.  But as I have been saying, I think changes will start to move in later this week.

Here is a look at your latest 7-day forecast.

Doug

I meant to update the long range, but left my notes at work.  So I will get it done when I get to work.

June (12th-18th):

Thunderstorm chances of the weekend of the 12th.  Then it looks nice until our next chances for storms on Wednesday and Thursday.  A little cooler behind this system for the rest of the week.

Severe threat:  Low(Sunday), Moderate (Wednesday & Thursday)

June (19th-25th):

Thunderstorms chances with several wave through the first half of the week.  Temperatures will be mild through the period.  I think our best chances will be on Sunday-Tuesday.  Then additional chances around Friday with warm temps into the weekend.

Severe threat:  Low (Sunday-Tuesday, Friday)

June (26th-July 2nd):

Warm to hot temperatures at the beginning of the week with our next wave that will affect us by the middle of the week.  This will give us chances for scattered thunderstorms.  I think temperatures will stay warm pressing into the holiday weekend.  However, thunderstorm chances will increase again towards the weekend as well.

Severe threat:  Low(Wednesday and Thursday)
