Brandon Williams and Ian Saxton named preseason football All-Americans

Updated:

JOPLIN-- Missouri Southern football junior and senior's to be Brandon Williams and Ian Saxton have both been named pre-season All-Americans by the Concensus Draft Services as announced by the organization today.

Williams, 6-3, 325, was named to three different All-American teams last season leading the Lions and the MIAA in sacks with nine as he ranked 21st nationally in both sacks and tackles for a loss. He had a memorable game earlier in the season when he helped the Lions sack the Missouri Western quarterbacks eight times, picking up three of his own in that game. On the season, Williams had 50 tackles, with 17 for a loss of nine yards, three pass break ups, six quarterback hurries and one forced fumble.

Saxton, 6-3, 268, made the move to center last year with near perfection and helped the Lions to the most yardage rushing since the 2007 season. A three-year starter for Southern on the offensive line, Saxton has been a leader on and off the field.

The Lions open up the 2011 regular season on September 1 with a 7 pm game at Central Missouri.
