Sunday Update July 31st

Hello Everyone,

(Saturday, July 31st)

As of this evening, a few storms are firing up again over the area. We will keep a close eye on them, one or two at best could become severe for a short time. Most of us will not see any storms or rain. Only a few. Here is the local summary:

A massive ridge of high pressure has once again built in over the 4 State area allowing for a very hot setup. We will continue to get some more storms over the area today, but under high pressure systems like this, the storms will typically only be scattered and limited. An excessive heat warning is in place from now until 7 PM Wednesday night. According to the 30 year average of temperatures, the next two weeks are typically the hottest weeks of the year. This will not always be the case, but statistically we are more likely to see hotter weather in this time. This time we will be able to tell it for sure as temperatures will likely soar above the 105 degree mark at times. Use caution this week and remember, September is around the corner and things will eventually cool down some. Best wishes to you and your family during this very hot and difficult time

Here is a look at the 500 Mb map showing a large area of high pressure that has set in to the area and will unfortunately decide to stay past its welcome this week. High pressure prevents most large scale rain systems (which we need) and allows the air to become stagnate and heat up under the suns influence. I have place the very hot forecast below as well:

A look at your latest 7-day forecast.

August 4th-6th:

Staying hot to extremely hot with slight chances for scattered storms as a front stall near the area.  Our chances for thunderstorms will mainly be on Thursday and Friday.

Severe threat:  Low (Thursday and Friday)

August 7th-13th:

Another hot week is in store for the whole viewing area.  Temperatures will be in the hot to extreme heat that we have been seeing.  Slight chances for thunderstorms with a front getting close to us on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Temperatures may drop off a hair by late in the week.

Severe threat: Low(Tuesday-Thursday)

August 14th-20th:

This week looks hot to extremely hot.  Also I think it will be mainly dry.

Severe threat:  None

August 21st-27th:

Another fairly hot week.  We should get a cool front near us giving us chances for thunderstorms through the week.  I think we will have this front stall across the area.  So I am going for chances for thunderstorms from Monday through Thursday, and then again by the weekend.  I think the week will be fairly hot, but this front could make the temperatures a little tricky.

Severe threat: Low (Monday-Thursday, Saturday)

August 28th-31st:

Back to hot to extremely hot and dry.

Severe threat: None
