A cold front will drop down into the 4 State region Saturday bringing slightly cooler temperatures and a fair chance for rain. A stray shower or storm is possible tonight, but Saturday a cluster of storms will move through along the front. Sunday should be slightly cooler and mostly sunny. We will warm up again very quickly next week with isolated storms returning at times.

Doug's Morning Update:
Good early Friday morning. I have been watching the line of showers and thunderstorms that have been dropping through the viewing area over the past few hours. This line continues to weaken and will do so through the rest of the morning hours. These will continue to push SE, but we could still see some additional thunderstorms pop up. However, I think by late morning we will be looking pretty good. So the bottom line is scattered thunderstorms, some strong but severe is looking very slim.
During the afternoon, we will still see a weak front across the area. However, I still expect temperatures to really heat up. We should see highs approaching 100 degrees. Areas near the I-44 corridor and also in SE KS will have the best chance of reaching 100.
Another big complex of storms will erupt again tonight. These will be out across central and western KS. This complex will roll east into the region again tonight. However, I think most of these will be in our northern counties.
As this front sticks around through the weekend, we will see chances for scattered thunderstorms. I think our next best chances will occur on Saturday night and into Sunday AM.
I will do and extensive blog later today.

Pattern Watch:
Remember that my theories are that a pattern develops at the beginning of the fall. With in this pattern we have a recurring cycle. Over the past year we have been in a 50 day recurring cycle. This cycle has now come to an end and the new cycle is in place. But the new cycle is still working in the old pattern. The old pattern is starting a morphing phase into the next pattern that will take about another 6 weeks to complete. My job over the next 6 weeks is find the length of the new cycle. Then after that my job will be how will this cycle react in our new pattern. That is another very difficult thing to figure out. However, I go into each fall knowing a little bit more from my research the year before. So I am very excited about what this new pattern will have in store for the 4-state area.

Here is your latest 7-day forecast.
Next week:
This should be an interesting week. I was talking about the cold front at the beginning of the week and what will it do. Latest indications are that is will slide through. If this occurs, we will have chances for showers on Monday and Tuesday and much cooler temperatures for the rest of the week. I wouldn't mind this happening. Rain chances will return by late in the week with another front pushing through.
Severe threat: Slight(Monday & Tuesday, Thursday & Friday)
August 28th-September 3rd:
Mild to warm temperatures at the beginning of the week. We need to watch and see what waves set up just east of us. It is possible to have some tropical moisture and upper level waves set up across the east 1/3rd of the country. If this occurs, we will see the nice temperatures sticking around for the beginning of the week. Also we will see rain chances all week long as fronts stall near the area. I do think temperatures will warm a bit though through the week.
Severe threat: Slight(through the week)
September 4th-10th:
Temperatures will heat up right at the beginning of the week. In fact this could be pretty warm stretch of weather for us. We will see slight chances for rain early in the week. Then again from Thursday through Saturday as another wave passes through. I expect warm temperatures all week long.
Severe threat: Slight(Monday, Tuesday, Thursday-Saturday)
September 11th-17th:
Temperatures heating up again early in the week with dry conditions. In fact most of the week should end up being dry. Temperatures a little cooler towards the weekend.
Severe threat: None
