WACO, Texas — The Pitt State football team climbed into the AFCA NCAA Division II Top 25 poll thanks to its 34-7 season-opening victory over Missouri Western on Sept. 1.
The Gorillas made their season debut at No. 25 in the first regular season poll, released Monday (Sept. 5).
Pitt State joined three other squads not previously ranked in the Division II pre-season poll – Carson-Newman, Colorado State-Pueblo and Colorado Mines – to crack the top 25 this week.
The Gorillas returned to the Division II top 25 for the first time since week five of the 2009 season.
MIAA rivals NW Missouri State (No. 2), Central Missouri (No. 12) and Washburn (No. 15) also figured in the top 25 poll.
The Gorillas return to the friendly confines of Brandenburg Field/Carnie Smith Stadium Saturday (Sept. 10) for their home opener against MIAA rival Emporia State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (CDT).
