KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- After a 56-14 win over Lincoln University this past Saturday in the Ameren Gateway Classic at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri Southern's Landon Zerkel and Ryon Phillips have been named the MIAA's Co-Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Zerkel, a 6-3, 215 pound junior wide receiver from Webb City, Mo. helped the Lions set a new school record for total offense in a game as the Lions racked up 647 yards against Lincoln. He had eight catches for 193 yards and three touchdowns, including a 92-yard touchdown catch after the Lions had stopped Lincoln inside their own five-yard line. He went into the game as the MIAA's leader in receptions per game. Zerkel shares the award with Tommy Corwin of Central Missouri.
Phillips, a 6-3, 220 pound freshman defensive end from Royce City, Texas, had a memorable game in the dome as he collected four tackles, all behind the line of scrimmage, for a loss of 30 yards.
