MSSU women finish 2nd at 2011 MIAA Cross Country Championship

JOPLIN -- The Missouri Southern women's cross country team placed second today in the 2011 MIAA Women's Cross Country Championships held at the MSSU Cross Country Course. 

Southern's Marlee Tegenkamp placed second with a time of 21:06.42, finishing just six seconds off the leading pace. Rachel Schrader was ninth with a time of 21:47.30 as both Schrader and Tegenkamp were named All-MIAA. 

Olivia Francka placed 24th with a time of 22:41.67, while Maggie Tennal and Codi Fritchie placed 28th and 29th, respectively. Lauren Baehr finished 46th, while Lauren Robson was 57th and Nicole French placed 60th. 

Southern placed second in the team totals, trailing the 2011 women's champs Pittsburg State by 29 points. Truman State was third (95), while Southwest Baptist (96), Northwest Missouri (112), Fort Hays (139), Central Missouri (152), Emporia State (212), and Lincoln (231) rounded out the team scores. 

Southern will be back in action on November 5 as the Lions travel to Wichita Falls, Texas to compete in the 2011 NCAA Divsion II South Central Regional Meet.
