Updated:

JOPLIN -- The Missouri Southern basketball team went down 46-21 at the half and couldn't complete the comeback in an 84-48 loss today to Missouri State in the I-44 Hoops Classic Presented by Wendy's.

All proceeds from the game including ticket sales and t-shirt sales go to helping the Missouri Southern Foundation Tornado Relief fund. After a sellout 3,477 fans for Missouri last Sunday, 2,977 fans packed the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center tonight.

The Lions were led in scoring by 15 points from Marquis Addison as the sophomore went 5-7 from the field and 5-7 from the free-throw line. Stephen Atkinson scored 11 points and added a team-high five rebounds.

Missouri State was led by 23 points from Kyle Weems as the senior hit 10-12 from the field and 2-3 from long range.

The Bears went up 16-4 to start the game, and led 39-7 after a three pointer from Caleb Patterson. The Lions got to within 25 points with a minute left in the half after an alley-oop from Matt Everson to Jason Adams.

MSU led by as much as 44 in the second half after a dunk from Keith Pickens made the score 75-39 with 5:54 left to go.

The Lions will open up the regular season next weekend in Bartlesville, Okla. when they take on Dallas Baptist on Friday and Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday in the South Central Regional Shootout.
