Lion Women Defeat Avila, 64-34

JOPLIN -- The Missouri Southern Women's Basketball squad (2-1) held the visiting Avila Eagles (3-2) to just 34 points on the night including a 11 point second half in a 64-34 victory Wednesday night in Joplin.

Junior forward Erin Rice led the way for the Lions with 14 points while senior guard Larrita Gipson, junior guard Kelby Fritz, and sophomore forward Jessica Bell added nine points each.

Leading the Lions on the defensive side of the ball was junior guard Tatianna Washington with three of the team's 13 steals.  Southern forced the Eagles into a season high 31 turnovers including three shot clock violations.  The Lions were also dominate on the boards in the win over Avila out rebounding the Eagles 47-28.

Southern will be back in action Monday November 21 at 7pm against the Lady Crusaders of Evangel University.
