Sunday Evening January 8th

Good Sunday evening, everyone. Hopefully, everyone had a great weekend as Mother Nature continued to play nice with our weather. We had another great day with partly sunny skies and highs reaching into the lower 50s in the Joplin Metro Area and the Four States. We can squeak out one more nice day before we see some big changes this week...

Current Radar:

As of 10 PM, the radar is trying to paint a few showers in southeastern Kansas, but the air up above the ground is still relatively dry. As a result, every drop is evaporating before it gets a chance to hit the ground. Our Monday will be pretty nice again with partly sunny skies and high temperatures around 50 degrees. The first change will come into the area late Tuesday afternoon as a stationary front wants to creep back from the south and a low pressure center riding along the front will bring chances for rain. Our rain chances will last until Wednesday morning and the best bet for rain will fall in our MO and Arkansas counties. After the rain chances leave, the big story will still be the upper-level low looking to move in on Thursday.

This is the same upper-level map Doug used in his last blog, but the models are still very confident about the middle of the week. This low will finally bring in some Arctic air which will result in some chilly days as we head into the weekend. We'll be looking at highs in the lower to middle 30s with overnight lows falling back into the middle teens. Also, looking into the next few weeks, the models are finally picking up on another upper-level wave that Doug has been hinting at for a while. It looks to come into play between the 19th and the 22nd. We'll wait and see what the models want to do with this system as the days go on, but let's have a great start to the week ahead!

Here is your latest 7-day forecast.

LONG RANGE FORECAST

Next Weekend:

Temperatures should slowly moderate.  Also we should be mainly dry ahead of our next wave early in the week.  If it comes in a little quicker, we could see some showers on Sunday.

January 15th-21st:

A brief warm up ahead of the next system that will affect us on Sunday and Monday.  I am not sure how much moisture will be available with this system, but it should bring in a pretty nice cold front.  Then our next system with cool temperatures will affect us on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  This will give us rain, snow or ice chances.  We will have to see how much cold air is available.

January 22nd-28th:

Cold temperatures will stick around most of the week.  We will see a weak wave with slight chances for precip on Sunday and Monday. Temperatures will moderate late in the week.

January 29th-February 4th:

We will see our next system with rain and or snow chances on Sunday and Monday.  Then a weak wave mid week with slight snow chances and cooler temperatures.  Another system moving in over the weekend of the 4th and 5th.
