
PITTSBURG -- Andra Bailey led five Pitt State players in double figures with 16 points as the Gorillas claimed a 79-70 victory over Washburn Wednesday (Jan. 11) at John Lance Arena.
Pitt State (10-5, 6-3 MIAA) converted 36 of 50 free throw attempts in a game slowed by 55 combined fouls -- 28 on the Ichabods and 27 on the Gorillas.
Pitt State used a 12-4 run to stretch a five-point game into a 64-51 advantage with 7:45 to play in the game. Washburn (10-5, 5-3 MIAA) battled back to make it a 70-65 game with 4:03 to go, but the Gorillas got baskets by Sam Pugh and JaVon McGee and a free throw by Marky Nolen to stretch it back to a 10-point game with 1:43 to play.
Bailey added eight rebounds with his team-leading 16 points, while Nolen added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Courtney Ingram (12) and McGee (11) also finished in double digits.
Will McNeill led all scorers with 18 points for the Ichabods. He was the only WU player to reach double figures.
The Ichabods shot just 37 percent in the game (19 of 51) but WU made 27 of 34 free throw attempts in the contest.
Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Jan. 14), hosting Fort Hays State in a 3:30 p.m. (CST) contest at John Lance Arena.
