Tuesday January 24th PM Blog

Good Tuesday evening, folks. Can you believe that we had another warm day this month? Joplin reached a high temperature of 64 degrees this afternoon with many locations in the Four States topping out in the lower to middle 60s. This is the 8th time this month that high temperatures have been at or above 60 degrees compared to 2 times last year and 4 times in January 2010. Hopefully, everyone enjoyed today because our next system is not too far to our southwest...

Current Radar:

As of 8 PM, the rain is just beginning to move into the southwestern parts of our viewing area. There's plenty more where that came from, and it will keep coming until we get into Thursday morning. There may be a few embedded thunderstorms, but they will NOT be severe. The dynamics just aren't there to get really potent storms going, but don't be surprised if you hear a random rumble of thunder when the rain chances pick up tonight and tomorrow. We don't really have any surface features supporting this cluster of rain, but upstairs, we can thank a certain upper-level low that's spinning in the panhandle of Texas...

This wave has enough energy to send the rain that keeps forming in northern Texas right up to our neck of the woods. Once the low pushes over and moves on out, we'll have a cold front push through right before the weekend.  With that one-two punch, that'll knock temperatures back a few degrees below average in the lower 40s for Friday and into Saturday. We're actually watching another possible upper-level shortwave as it wants to give us an interesting Friday evening. If it's strong enough and can tap into a bit of moisture, some of us could see a little mix of rain and snow to kick off the weekend. At this time, the chances look very slight, but we'll keep an eye on it. We're looking good for the rest of the weekend with a good mix of clouds and sun with highs warming back up into the 50s to kick off the upcoming week ahead. Have a great night!

Here is your latest 7-day forecast.

LONG RANGE FORECAST

Next Tuesday-Saturday:

Our next system should move in right on schedule.  We will have rain chances on Tuesday and then rain or snow chances on Wednesday.  Then temperatures will cool back down.  A weak wave with slight chances for snow on Friday.

February 5th-11th:

A cool start to the week with a weak wave rolling through.  So we will have slight chances for rain on snow on Sunday and Monday.  A little stronger system will push in around Wednesday with rain or snow chances.  Remember it all depends on if we can get some cold air to push south.  Another weak wave with slight chances on Friday.

February 12th-18th:

A stronger system should push in early in the week with rain or snow chances.  Then staying cold through the middle of the week.  Then cool temperatures for the rest of the week.  We will have a weak wave that will give us slight precip chances.

February 19th-25th:

A cool start to the week with a weak wave early in the week.  So this will give us very slight chances for rain or snow.  Then mainly dry with our temperatures moderating a bit the rest of the week.
