Gorillas Get Big Win Over Truman, 73-56

Updated:

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Rico Pierrevilus led the balanced Pitt State scoring attack with a game-high 18 points off the bench as the Gorillas claimed a 73-56 victory over Truman State Wednesday (Jan. 25) at John Lance Arena.

The Gorillas used a 16-2 run to start the second half to expand on their 28-25 halftime advantage. During the run, Pitt State missed just one field goal, hitting eight of nine attempts. This gave PSU a 42-27 lead with 15:06 left in the game.

Truman put together a 14-3 run of their own immediately following Pitt State's. This cut the Gorillas' lead to just seven with 9:54 remaining. However, Pittsburg would pull away down the stretch to claim their second straight MIAA victory.

Pitt State (12-7, 8-4 MIAA) finished the night shooting .464 (25-56) from the field, including .375 (6-16) from behind the arc. They also finished .652 (15-23) from the charity stripe. The Gorillas doubled the Bulldogs in rebounding 46-23, including 20 offensive boards for PSU.

Andra Bailey recorded a team-high 14 rebounds to go along with his eight points. Courtney Ingram (11) and Eric Ray (10) also finished in double digits. Marky Nolen (9), Bailey (8), and Drake Green (7) all turned in solid performances.

The Bulldogs were led by Isaac Gardner, who scored 16 off the bench. Seth Jackson (12) was the only other Truman player to score in double figures.

Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Jan. 28), traveling to Central Missouri for a 3:30 p.m. (CST) contest in Warrensburg, Mo.
