MIAA Baseball: Kolkmeyer, Stalcup Named Student-Athletes of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dane Kolkmeyer (Missouri Southern) and Matt Stalcup (Pittsburg State) have been named MIAA Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 28-March 5, as selected by a conference SID panel.

MIAA BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK

Kolkmeyer helped the Lions stay undefeated this weekend with a four-game sweep of Truman. In the first game of a double-header against Truman on Saturday, Kolkmeyer helped the team come from an 8-3 deficit to win 16-10. The junior from Joplin, Mo., came off the bench in that game to go 2-3 with four RBIs, a triple and two runs scored. In the second game of the double-header, he went 2-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, to go along with a stolen base. He saved his best performance for last as he had two separate three-run home runs in the finale on Sunday. He hit an opposite field home run to score three in the first inning and followed that up with another three-run long ball to left field later in the game. For the week, Kolkmeyer hit .600 with two home runs, a double, a triple, six hits, a stolen base and 11 driven in.

MIAA BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Matt Stalcup, LHP, Pittsburg State
Stalcupposted a pair of victories on the mound for the Gorillas, helping Pitt State post a 5-1 record for the week.  The Wellington, Kan., native allowed just nine hits in 13 innings of work in a 5-1 complete-game victory over Sioux Falls Monday (Feb. 25) and a 6-1 victory over Lincoln Saturday (Mar. 3).  He walked three batters and registered 22 strikeouts in the two contests, allowing just one extra-base hit. Stalcup, who transferred to Pitt State from Allen County Community College, allowed five hits and fanned 12 batters against Sioux Falls. He limited the Blue Tigers to four hits in six innings of work, striking out 10 batters.
