Keane Thomann named Region Player of the Year

Updated:

JOPLIN -- For the second-straight year, the Missouri Southern men's basketball team has the Daktronics South Central Region Player of the Year as senior center Keane Thomann has earned that honor today as voted on by the sports information directors of the region.

The 6-11, 265-pounder from Olney, Ill. was the 2012 MIAA Player of the Year and a unanimous first-team All-MIAA pick after leading the league and ranking 10th in all of NCAA Division II in scoring at 21.7 points per game.

Thomann also topped the MIAA in field goal percentage while rating third in both rebounds and blocks. He currently ranks sixth and 10 nationally in field goal percentage and scoring. He has 10 double-doubles this season and has moved into seventh place on MSSU's all-time scoring list with 1,505 points. Thomann is the MSSU all-time leader in single season and career field goal percentage and was a four-time MIAA Player of the Week this season.

Thomann was a first-team selection and senior guard Jason Adams was picked to the second-team. Adams was a first-team All-MIAA pick this season and set a new MIAA Tournament record (games played in Kansas City) for points in a game with his 42-point performance against Fort Hays State last week. He has 1,976 career points as a Lion and sits No. 2 on that list.

Washburn guard Will McNeill joined Thomann on the first-team, while he, Thomann and Adams were the lone MIAA representatives on the list. The complete All-Region team is listed below.

Southern, who moved to No. 23 in the final NABC coaches poll this week, will be the No. 7 seed at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Lions will face off with No. 2 seed Tarleton State on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
