Man sentenced for Joplin, Webb City bank robberies

Updated October 31, 2012:  An Alba, Missouri man is sentenced today for robbing banks in southwest Missouri.

Michael Manis is sentenced to 15 years and eight months in federal prison without parole for robbing the U.S. Bank in Webb City, Great Southern Bank in Joplin and a bank in Springfield.

According to court documents Manis admitted to the robberies and told officers he used a different pellet gun for each robbery.

Updated March 28, 2012:  A suspect is arrested in connection with a Joplin bank robbery two weeks ago.

Joplin police arrest the man they believe robbed the Great Southern Bank on March 14.

Michael Manis is now charged with first degree robbery and armed criminal action.  He's at the Joplin city jail, held on a $70,000 bond.

Manis is accused of entering the bank armed with a hand gun, demanding cash, and escaping on foot.

Police are also investigating bank robberies in Webb City and Springfield that Manis may have committed as well.

Updated March 16, 2012:  Video surveillance from a nearby business shows a man matching the description of a suspect who robbed the Great Southern Bank on Wednesday in Joplin.

A drawing of the suspect has also been released.

Police say the suspected entered the bank with a hand gun, demanded cash, then left on foot.

Reported March 14, 2012:  The search is on for a man who robbed the Great Southern Bank on South Rangeline today.Police were called to the bank at about 2 p.m.

The suspect entered the bank wearing dark pants, a dark shirt, dark sunglasses and a stocking hat.  Witnesses say he entered the bank with a hand gun, demanded cash, then left on foot.

No one was harmed during the robbery.

The FBI is assisting in the investigation.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the robbery.
