Free eye exams were offered today at the Independent Living Center in Joplin. More than 70 people had already gotten their eye exam by early this afternoon.
The exams were done by a resident opthamologists at the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Melanie Metcalf doesn't have eye care insurance and says she greatly appreciated today's offer.
"I just can't see, even with my glasses," Metcalf says.. "The other eye doctor I went to, he said it's not my glasses, he said it's just my eyes are bad and I don't know what that means."
The state of Missouri offers eye care services to certain people who aren't able to afford insurance.
