Gorillas Fall Twice to Tigers Friday

Updated:

HAYS, Kan. — The Pitt State baseball team dropped both ends of an MIAA doubleheader Friday (Apr. 6) against Fort Hays State. The Gorillas fell, 2-1 and 11-6, to the Tigers.

The losses dropped Pitt State to 11-16 overall and 9-11 in MIAA play, while FHSU improved to 13-15, 11-12 MIAA.

In the opener, FHSU's Shawn Lewick outdueled Pitt State's Matt Stalcup. The Gorillas grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Tigers plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.

In the nightcap, the Tigers jumped out to an 11-1 lead after three innings of play. Evan Thomas went 2-for-3 with his third homer of the season to pace the Gorillas' nine-hit attack in the game.

The two teams will wrap up their weekend series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
