Southern releases 2012 Football Schedule

JOPLIN-- The Missouri Southern football team has announced its 2012 schedule that will feature six home games and trips to MIAA newcomers Central Oklahoma and Lindenwood. 

New Southern head coach Daryl Daye will open the 2012 season at the University of Central Oklahoma on Thursday, August 30 for a 7 pm start against the Bronchos. UCO has been a member of the Lone Star Conference, but will be starting year one of its affiliation with the MIAA.

The Lions then play their home opener on Saturday, September 8 with a 6 pm start against new MIAA member Northeastern State from Fred G. Hughes Stadium. After a game at Lincoln on September 15, Southern comes home to play host to Southwest Baptist on September 22 in the annual Hall of Fame game. SBU will be back in the MIAA as a full football member in 2012. 

The Lions will play at Central Missouri on September 29 and then will come home to play its only non-conference matchup of the season against South Dakota Mines for Homecoming. Mines will be a new Division II member this season and the game will kickoff at 2 pm. 

Southern will also play road games at Missouri Western and Lindenwood with a game at home on October 20 against Northwest Missouri sandwiched in between both contests.

The Lions then finish off the season with back-to-back home contests, playing host to Truman in the John Ware Memorial Classic on November 3 at 3 pm, then finishing off the regular season with the Sonic Miners Bowl against Pittsburg State on November 10. Kickoff for the Miners Bowl will be 2 pm.
