Pittsburg State Volleyball Adds Four

PITTSBURG -- Pittsburg State Head Volleyball Coach is pleased to announce the addition of four new athletes for the 2012 season. Olivia Roland, Aimi Orton, Jordan Rehm and Paula Okrutna will all join the Gorillas in the fall.

Olivia Roland is a 6-0 middle blocker from Bellevue, Neb. She attends Papillion Lavista South High School and is coached by Gwen Egbert. The team has gone 82-0 over the last two seasons and is the top ranked high school team in the nation after winning the last two Nebraska State High School Championships. She has also excelled at the club elevel, competing for the Nebraska IMpact Affinity and Banzai teams. In 2011 the Banzai squad earned a first-place regional finish and finished 18th in the national. The team also finished fourth in the Show Me Tournament and fifth in the prestigious Colorado Crossroads tournament. Roland hit at a .333 clip in high school with a .527 block percentage. The daughter of  Kris Bahns, Roland plans to major in broadcasting at PSU.

"Olivia is bringing our team a combination of strong training with Coach Egbert at Papillion Lavista and the experience of being part of teams that achieved undefeated seasons while winning back-to-back national titles," Coach Suberu said. "In addition, Olivia also brings a great winning background from USA Volleyball club training and competition with the Nebraska IMpact club out of Omaha. She is an exciting athlete and an excellent student."

Aimi Orton is a 5-8 setter/outside hitter from Towanda, Kan. She attends circle high school where she is coached by Shelley Nibarger. She earned all-league honors three times in her career, including first team honors in 2011. Orton played club ball for the Wichita Power, Shockwave and ITC Elite. In addition, she is a strong scholar, earning Kansas Honor Scholar and Wichita State Presidential Scholar honors. She will also be the valedictorian of her graduation class, The daughter of Russell and Michelle Orton, Aimi plans to major in biology at Pittsburg State.

"We had the opportunity to work with Aimi during our summer training camps and her ability to hold on to trained skills was evident," Suberu said. "She had a great senior year for coach Nibarger's Circle High School Thunderbirds as a hitter/setter combo position player. While she is currently competing with ICT Elite our of wichita as an attacking player, she will focus on training as a setter when she arrives at Pittsburg State. She is a dedicated student with great balance as a student-athlete."

Jordan Rehm will come to Pitt State as a junior after competing two years at Hutchinson Community College under the direction of Sarah Myers. Rehm is a 5-9 outside hitter from Derby, Kan. Last season she recorded 210 kills, 208 digs and 62 blocks for the season. She earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a sophomore. Rehm attended Rose HIll High School and was coached by Pat Hall. She is the daughter of Brian and Cindy Rehm and plans to take a pre-medicine course of study at Pittsburg State.

"Jordan is a dynamic athlete with strong passing and attacking skills," Coach Suberu said. "She is very explosive and w ill bring two years of collegiate experience from competing for Coach Sarah Myers' team at Hutchinson Community College. With the addition of Jordan to our team, we have just increased the competitiveness of our serve receive and point scoring group. Jordan is a highly focused student."

Paula Okrutna is a 6-0 middle blocker and rightside hitter from Pila, Poland. She will come to Pittsburg State as a junior after playing one season for Fort Scott Community College under the direction of former Pitt State assistant coach Lindsay Hill. In her only season at FSCC, Okrutna earned NJCAA DII honorable mention All-America honors, after earned first-team all conference and first-team all-district honors. Last season she averages 4.98 kills and 2.43 digs per set. Her 573 kills on the season and 4.98 kills per set set new GSCC school records and her kills per set average also ranked first in the nation. The daughter of Jolanta and Waldemar Okrutna, Ppaula plans to study sports management and business at Pittsburg State.

"We are very excited about having Paula join us," COach Suberu said. "She has adjusted well to the academics and volleyball competition environment of college through her training with Coach Hill at Fort Scott. She is cross-trained and has achieved great success in point scoring with her versatility. We anticipate Paula having the same level of immediate impact that Klaudia Grelowska had during her years with Gorilla Volleyball. She is an excellent student with strong focus on her post-college career."
