A penny war between Baxter Springs and Riverton middle schools.
As part of a Relay for Life fundraiser the two schools competed last week to see who could gather the most pennies, with the losing school wearing shirts from the winning school.
Last Thursday, Riverton was announced the winner so Baxter Springs had to wear blue Riverton shirts on Friday.
"There's a pretty nice rivalry," says Riverton math teacher, Amanda Walker. "I think the kids get along really well and it was kind of a fun thing to do. It was a competition but we also were encouraged by the cause."
So far the two schools have raised $2098.66.
